Silom is office towers, hotels and banks. It’s not where I expected to find some of the street food I’ve filmed most. But the pavement around Sala Daeng Road feeds a lot of people, and it does it well.
This walk covers two stalls: deep-fried seafood, and the banana roti cart I keep going back to.
The seafood
Shrimp, squid and crab, battered and fried, sold by the portion. Prices when I filmed ran from about 60 baht up to 200, depending on what you pick and how much of it.
If there are two of you, get a mix. The squid and the shrimp are easy. The crab takes more effort to eat, which is half the point.
There’s a shorter video that’s just this stall, if the seafood is all you’re after: deep-fried shrimp, squid and crab.
Then dessert
The other half of the walk is banana roti from Puy Roti Lady’s cart: thin, crisp dough, banana and egg, condensed milk on top, for 25 to 40 baht. I’ve filmed her seven times, so I’m biased. Start with how she makes it.
The practical bit
